About Us
The Waushara County Historical Society was formed in 1948. A hand full
of local citizens interested in preserving Waushara County history met
regularly to collect mostly printed material at first. A huge cache of glass
negatives were acquired some time later and are a major part of our
research efforts.
Our beautiful museum (the old Waushara County Jail and Sheriff's home)
was redone and opened in the late 1980's. It holds one of the largest
collections of local artifacts depicting life in this county going back to 1851.
The Society is run by a 9 member board elected from within the membership.
Using money from a bequest, some land has recently been acquired in the
City of Wautoma to construct a pioneer village and storage facility to
house and display some of our larger exhibits.
We welcome new members. We are a volunteer organization and guides,
filing clerks and researchers are always welcome.
